Certain knowledge of public international law issues is required.


Skrócony opis:

The course provides knowledge about legal national and international protection of peoples’ rights and freedoms and question about effects of legal instruments introduction.

The aim of the course is to show how the international legal systems of protection are built. Students are introduced to the main sources of protection in universal and regional systems, the catalogues of freedoms and rights and to the means of control. But first they have a possibility to hear about the philosophical roots of human rights and about the conversion from the idea to the element of national constitutional laws and then to the international legal systems.

The course concerns the following issues:

1. The notion of human rights.

2. The background of human rights – its roots and evolution.

3. Freedoms and rights.

4. Sources of protection of human rights in democratic countries.

5. Control and means of protection of human rights.

6. Role of international organizations in creation of systems of legal protection of the rights and freedoms.

7. Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch – their history and activities.
