(tylko po angielsku) The course will discuss functions and theories of mass communication focusing on issues related to the evolution of language imposed by technology. In particular it will concentrate on the English language used in media and attempt to answer the questions of how media, in particular social media, are altering language. |

New Media Technologies – English language perspective - English as a Lingua Franca of digital media - language and social media: Twitter, Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram, Snapchat - brevity - Txt spk - hate language - fake news III. The types of broadcasts: - News headlines - News reports - Sports commentaries - Holiday programmes - Arts reviews - Interviews - Financial reports - Internet |

Metody i kryteria oceniania: |
(tylko po angielsku) Course Requirements: - Participation in the course is compulsory (2 absences acceptable) - Students are expected to complete assigned week-to-week tasks (readings and activities) - Completion of Course Project (to be printed out and handed in on the assigned date to be evaluated). The Project will consist of "Media Usage Diary". The Diary should cover one continuous, full week (7 days) and should describe all encounters with: - Print media (newspapers, books, etc. ) - Visual and audio media (TV, video, radio, podcasts, etc.) - Internet & social media. The more detailed and indepth the records in the diary - the higher the grade. NOTE: Special attention should be payed to the final analysis of findings where students are expected to comment, reflect and draw conclusions from their observations. |
