The aim of the course is analysis of individual, group or social systems' abnormal forms of activity defined as social pathologies

INTRODUCTION

pathos (in Greek πάθος) = experience, suffering.

pathetic (in Greek παθητικά) sublime, important things, sensitive

logos (in Greek λόγος)- word, knowledge

social pathologies are the group of harmful phenomenon (in individual or group context) with specified genesis, social dimension and negative effect (L. P Y T K A 1999, S. 175)."

Term with a series of related conditions (deviation, risk behaviour, disorganisation).

According to the literature we can precise social pathologies as a socio-cultural phenomenon in dimensions as below:

- Individual (addiction, suicide, juvenile delinquency, teenage prostitution)

- Domestic - (family breakdown, domestic violence)

- Local - locally acting groups, common acts of a criminal group or (individual members - local gangs)

- National (organised pathological activity in the national dimension: bureaucracy, corruption, unemployment, poverty)

- International (international criminal groups: drug mafias, terrorist organizations, religious sects).

TASK

Each student should choose topic and based on literature and internet resources precise:

- typical symptoms/features

- threats experienced by victims

- etiology

- prevention/intervention strategies

PROCESS:

- each student choose and precise topic

- each student try to describe chosen problem paying attention on three perspectives: offender, victim and social service (form: digital file)

- each work will be assessed by students from the group (blind peer review)

EVALUATION

Criteria for peer review and final evaluation by the teacher (scale 1-5):

ASSESSMENT OF THE COLLECTED MATERIAL:

(statistical data, qualitative material, comparative studies, materials characterized by reliability, objectivity and useful in the implementation of the task, critical studies on the literature and desk research)

1. no suitable material has been collected, residual information,

2. the collected material is selective, but informations are incomplete and not reliable

3. the collected material is fairly complete and does not raise serious objections

4. the collected material is complete, satisfied

5. the collected material is outstanding, above average

CONTENT (compliance of the collected material with the topic, manner of using information, analysis of collected material, creative acquisition and use of information)

1. The material has been prepared cursorily, information inadequate to the issue, the lack of own thoughts, analyzes and reflections

2. The material has been prepared cursorily, incomplete data on the issues, own analyzes at the minimum level

3. The material has been prepared on an average level, the information reflects the analyzed phenomenon satisfactorily, own analyzes at the average level

4. High level of collected material, numerous own studies characterized by correctness of the argument, a subject comprehensively developed

5. Above-average level of the own analyzes / studies

PROJECT DESIGN (logic of presented content, its transparency, readability and aesthetic side)

1. Numerous formal and linguistic errors, the graphic and aesthetic side do not coincide with the analyzed issues, haphazard, chaotic content of the project

2. Formal and linguistic errors, together with the graphic side they affect the quality of the project, the content is unstructured

3. Few mistakes at work (formal and linguistic) to a negligible extent affect the quality of work,

4. Lack of formal and linguistic errors, the structure of the project does not raise serious objections

5. Model structure and editorial part
