Punkty ECTS i inne: 6.00 Podstawowe informacje o zasadach przyporządkowania punktów ECTS:
  • roczny wymiar godzinowy nakładu pracy studenta konieczny do osiągnięcia zakładanych efektów uczenia się dla danego etapu studiów wynosi 1500-1800 h, co odpowiada 60 ECTS;
  • tygodniowy wymiar godzinowy nakładu pracy studenta wynosi 45 h;
  • 1 punkt ECTS odpowiada 25-30 godzinom pracy studenta potrzebnej do osiągnięcia zakładanych efektów uczenia się;
  • tygodniowy nakład pracy studenta konieczny do osiągnięcia zakładanych efektów uczenia się pozwala uzyskać 1,5 ECTS;
  • nakład pracy potrzebny do zaliczenia przedmiotu, któremu przypisano 3 ECTS, stanowi 10% semestralnego obciążenia studenta.

The course will focus on various forms of social diversity, including issues of social exclusion and intersectionality. Major course topics include:

1. Poverty and social exclusion [the measures of poverty, the discourses of poverty and social exclusion]

2. The changes in the labor market. The precariat

3. The spatial dimension of social diversity [ghettoization, gated communities]

4. Cultural capital. Educational inequality

5. The diversity of lifestyles

6. Inequalities of gender and age

7. Ethnic stratification. Migrants and labor market

8. Prestige. The attitudes toward inequality

9. Social capital and inequality

10. Social structure in the network society

Efekty uczenia się:

KP7_WG1 has a thorough knowledge of the specifics of sociological terminology and is able to define sociological terms independently

KP7_WG3 has thorough knowledge of theoretical approaches and research paradigms concerning systemic transformation in Poland and changes in contemporary Polish society

KP7_WG4 has thorough knowledge of different theoretical approaches that explain the essence of social structures and relations between them

KP7_WG5 has thorough knowledge of cultural diversity and its consequences for the functioning of social and political structures

KP7_WG6 has thorough knowledge of communication and media relations in modern society in sociological, cultural, political and economic aspects

KP7_WG8 can explain the influence of culture on different types of social ties

KP7_WK1 has thorough knowledge of the functioning of economic, political and religious structures in the contemporary world

KP7_WK2 has thorough knowledge of national and ethnic diversity in the contemporary world both in global and local dimensions

KP7_UW2 is able to critically evaluate data, formulate own opinions, draw conclusions from analysis

KP7_UK1 is able to relate critically to the consequences of social and cultural changes

KP7_UK2 has advanced skills of substantive argumentation using the views of various authors and formulating conclusions in scientific works (essays, annual and semester works)

KP7_KO1 has a thorough awareness of the importance of sociological knowledge in solving social problems, is open to knowledge dissemination

Class Attendance

Term paper, reviewing a chosen area of social diversity: each student is required to prepare a term paper (7-10 pages). The initial form of the term paper (showing the main points and data) should be prepared as a PowerPoint presentation.
