The lecture covers the following topics:

1. The essence of astronomy. Sources of information. Techniques used in optical astronomy. Atmospheric windows. Astronomical instruments.

2. Blackbody radiation and Plank's law.

3. The Earth and the Moon. Eclipses. Tides.

4. The Kepler's law.

5. The Solar System: Sun, planets, dwarf planets, Kuiper belt, Oort cloud.

5. The extrasolar planets.

6. The stars and their evolution: dwarfs, red giants, supergiants, planetery nebula, white dwarf, neutron star, black hole. Hertzprung-Rusell diagram. The evolution of the Sun.

7. Variable and explosive stars: eclipsing binaries, pulsating variable stars, novae, supernovae.

8. Galaxies: Milky Way, Local cluster, supercluster.

9. Cosmology: the Hubble-Lemaître law, CMB, the Bing Bang. Dark matter and dark energy. The future of theUniverse.

The lecture is held on the board. Remote lectures in the case of Covid-19 using e.g. Zoom, Skype, MS Teams, Blackboard.
