After successfully studying course of Thermodynamics students will be able to::

1. understand the physical bases of Thermodynamics (K_W12);

2. analyze problems in the field of basic Thermodynamics and find their solutions, analyze and formulate conclusions (K_U10);

3. understand and critically use the resources of literature and Internet in relation to the basic physics problems (K_U17);

4. be aware of the limitations of their knowledge and understand the need for further education and improving professional, personal and social skills (K_K01);

5. self-search information in the literature and Internet resources, in foreign languages also (K_K05);

6. formulate opinions on the basic issues of physics (K_K06).

Metody i kryteria oceniania: (tylko po angielsku)

The credit for the exercises is based on the assessment that takes into account:

1. activity and ability to solve exercises,

2. understanding of the presented problems,

3. ability to use tables and literature

Zakres tematów: (tylko po angielsku)

1. Thermal motion of particles, expansion of solids and liquids;

2. Properties of perfect gases, Clapeyron-Clausius equation, molar heat and specific heat of gases, real gases and vapors, liquids and solutions;

3. First law of Thermodynamics, isoprocesses of perfect gas (work and energy in isoprocesses)

4. Second law of Thermodynamics, Carnot cycle, efficiency, heat engines and refrigeration systems, entropy of the system and its changes

5. Basic equation for kinetic theory of gases, Richardson's law, transport phenomena in gases;

6. Maxwellian distribution of particle velocity, average free path of particles, number of collisions;

7. Thermodynamic functions and their differential, enthalpy and Gibbs potential, Maxwell's equations.

Metody dydaktyczne: (tylko po angielsku)

Students receive a list of tasks to solve, the content of which is correlated with the one of the lecture. During exercises they present their content and discuss ways to solve it. The teacher pays special attention for understanding of the terms and content used, the clarity of the presentation, stimulates the group to ask questions and discuss. Students are encouraged to work in a team.
