(tylko po angielsku) Profile of studies: all-academic, Form of study: full-time, Field of study: sciences and natural sciences, disciplines: astronomy, physical sciences, Year of studies: second, Prerequisites: none, Teaching load: lecture 15 hours, Teaching methods: lecture, discussion, consultation, students' own work at home. The aim of the course, delivered in the form of a lecture, is to familiarise doctoral students with selected issues concerning the scientific project carried out in their dissertation. The lecture is illustrated with multimedia materials, presentations, charts, diagrams. |

(tylko po angielsku) Graduates know and understand 1. theoretical background as well as general and detailed issues enabling revision of the existing paradigms in the field of exact and natural sciences (SD_WG01); 2. current scientific achievements within one’s specialisation based on specialist literature (SD_WG02) 3. contemporary development trends and the most recent achievements of physical sciences (SD_WG03); 4. principles of methodology in physical sciences as well as research methods and techniques applied in physic (SD_WG04), Graduates is able to 1. draw conclusions based on the confrontation of common literature with the results of their own research (SD_UW03); 2. individually plan a self-development process (SD_UU01). |
Metody i kryteria oceniania: |
(tylko po angielsku) Oral or written exam. The oral examination would consist of a discussion of three issues drawn from a pre-prepared list of issues. The written exam consists of a few numerical/analytical problems to solve. Form of credit to be agreed with students. |

(tylko po angielsku) Topics covered in the lecture: 1. accretion phenomena on Earth and in space, 2. energy sources and their efficiency, 3. typical parameters in the description of accretion: Eddington luminosity, black hole mass, accretion rate, effective temperature of a black body; 4. the two-body problem, Lagrange points, Roche lobe; 5. condition of accretion disk formation; 6. evolution over time of the Roche radius; 7. Time scales: Kelvin-Helmholtz, dynamical, nuclear; 8. cataclysmic systems, X-ray Binaries, 9. Geometricaly thin, optically thich accretion disk; 10. Hot corona, warm skin; 11. Spectral states. |
