To function in an information-centric world, we need to understand the mechanisms of network technology and information society. This course explores new changes of societies and consequences of advanced telecommunication and information technologies. Throughout the classes we will explore how Internet changes social, work and communication condition. Topics includes the social implications of the Internet, new social networks, online societies (virtual communities), social innovation, online civil action, new business models, pathological consequences of Internet use and many others. After these classes students will know basic terminology related to sociology of Internet (e.g. Communities, online deliberation, Web 1.0 and 2.0, Wikinomics) and develop a better understanding of global processes taken nowadays. |
