Short description:

The course develops the students' ability to make use of the metalanguage of contemporary literary studies to analyse and interpret literary works, and to understand the development of American literature after WW II.

Initial requirements:completed the courses "Introduction to Literary Studies" and "The History of American Literature".

Number of didactic hours: 30h, classes.

Didactic methods: discussions, presentations.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Active participation in classes.

The course ends with a grade. The grade is based on tests. To receive a positive grade, the student has to earn at least 60% of the availabale points in the tests.

60 – 74% = 3, 75 – 82% = 4, 83 – 100% = 5

There are no retakes of separate tests. Students may be absent on the day of a test only because of medical reasons.

Students who receive less than 60% of point will be able to retake a test (the entire material) at the end of the course, but the only available grade is 3.

Students are allowed to be absent twice during a term. Students whose number of unexcused absences is more than twice per semester are obliged to get credit for the material covered during the classes he/she was absent on.
