LECTURE: 1.Electrochemistry of electrolyte solutions Nature of electrolytes. Electrolytic dissociation. Weak and strong electrolytes. Electric conductance of electrolyte solutions. Specific and molar conductance. Mobility of ions. Applications of conductance of solutions. Mechanism of ionic conductance. Transport numbers. Measurements of conductance. 2. Surface phenomena and adsorption Types of interfaces. Surface energy and surface tension. Surface excess. Gibbs’ adsorption equation. Adsorption isotherms of Henry, Freundlich, Langmuir. Adsorption on solid surface. 3. Physical chemistry of dispersed systems, colloids and macromolecules. Microheterogeneous systems, classification. Molecular kinetic properties of colloids. Structure of colloidal particles. Optical properties of colloids. Coagulation of lyophobic colloids. Protective action of colloids. Coagulation of lyophilic colloids. Peptization, syneresis, gelation, swelling. Electrical properties of colloids. 4. Chemical kinetics and catalysis Velocity of chemical reaction. Constant of reaction velocity. Order of reaction. Mechanisms of reactions. Kinetic equations. Methods of kinetic studies. Chemical catalysis. Catalysts. Mechanism of catalysis. SEMINAR: 1.Specific conductance, equivalent (molar) conductance, ionic mobility, transport numbers. 2.Chemical kinetics: rate of reaction, effect of temperature on rate of reaction, reaction order, kinetic equation, activation energy, parallel reactions. 3. Galvanic cell: electric potential of a Galvanic cell, activity coefficient, solubility product. LABORATORY: 1.Adsorption of acetic acid on activated carbon 2.Determination of the solubility product of silver chloride using method of the electromotive force (EMF) of the cell measurements 3.Rate of chemical reactions. Iodination of Acetone. 4.Conductivity determination of dissociation constant of a weak acid. 5.Examination of the effect of the acid concentration on kinetics of sugar inversion reaction 6.Determination of isoelectric point of gelatine by viscosity measurements. 7.Surface tension measurement of selected liquids by stalagmometric method. Metody i kryteria oceniania: |
In order to pass the laboratory, student must complete all laboratory exercices, pass the reports on the exercises perfomed and obtain a positive grade from the written tests. Exam from the lecture. |
