Short description: |
The subject is aimed at expanding, consolidating and improving all language skills. Students develop a correct style of oral and written statements., become familiar with the stylistics of academic text, become sensitive to linguistic and cultural divergences, prepare for independent translation of short press and applied texts, as well as improve the skills of speaking in a debate (argumentation, construction of an argumentative statement). |

KP6_WG1 - linguistic phenomena, processes and systems and theories explaining the relationships between them KP6_WG9 - the basic conceptual apparatus for describing cultural phenomena relevant to the analysis of language and the process of communication KP6_WG13 - basic conceptual apparatus of information technologies KP6_WK1 - problems and challenges related to language and communication and their links to fundamental dilemmas of contemporary civilisation KP6_UW6 - select and use appropriate methods and tools, including advanced information and communication technologies (ICT) KP6_UK4 - take part in a debate in a foreign language, present and evaluate various opinions and positions and discuss them KP6_UK6 - speak and write in a second foreign language at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Through a variety of interactive activities, including text analysis, word learning, speaking, and writing, this 20-hour course will help students develop their English language proficiency and understanding of other cultures. The theme of the course will revolve around the ways language is used to create and understand reality through figurative language, including metaphors. The final grade will be based on attendance, participation, and the end-of-the-course project. |

Credit for the course will be based on the evaluation of the final project work - an analysis of the language in use using the theoretical framework discussed in class. The final grade will be based on attendance, active participation in class and project work prepared by students. Attendance in class is mandatory. One unexcused absence per semester is allowed. Excused absences (e.g., sick leave) should be made available for review no later than one week after the absence. In case of longer or prolonged absences (more than two missed classes), the student is obliged to contact the instructor at that time. |
