Prerequisites (description): | The course aims to provide students with fundamental knowledge of morphology, syntax and semantics of English as well as to identify the similarities and differences between the grammatical systems of English and Polish. |

The main aim of this course is to familiarize students with the foundations of the descriptive grammar of English. The main part of the course involves an overview of the fundamental features of the English grammar system. The course is also intended to draw students' attention to the grammar phenomena discussed in their assigned readings and facilitate their comprehension. |

General Academic Profile Full-time programme Obligatory course (M_5) The humanisties, linguistics. Year 1, Semesters 1 and 2 Prerequisites: The student should understand the basics of English grammar description and know its basic terms. Number of hours: 45 h, lecture Teaching methods: lecture 3 ECTS credits Students' workload balance Participation in the lecture: 45 h Consultations with the teacher: 5 h Revision for the the tests and attending them: 28 h Numerical indicators: Students' workload connected with classes which require the teacher's participation: 50 h 2 ECTS credits |

Learning outcomes: |
The graduate knows and understands: KP6_WG1 Linguistic phenomena, processes, and systems, as well as theories explaining the relationships between them --- with respect to the description of morphology, syntax, and semantics of English (written test) KP6_WG4 general terminology and basic methodological tools concerning linguistics ---with respect to the desctiption of the morphology, syntax, and semantics of English (written test) The graduate is able to: KP6_UW1 Formulate and solve complex problems, selecting appropriate methods and tools using knowledge of English descriptive grammar (written test) KP6_UW7 properly select sources and information derived from them in the field of linguistics as well as evaluate, critically analyse and synthesize this information - with respect to the description of English morphology, syntax, and semantics (written test) KP6_UK1 communicate using specialised terminology in the field of linguistics and translation studies, including socio-cultural elements - with respect to the description of English morphology, syntax, and semantics (written test) The graduate is prepared to: KP6_KK1 Critically assess their own knowledge of English descriptive grammar. (in-class observation) KP6_KK2 Recognize the importance of knowledge of English descriptive grammar in solving cognitive and practical problems. (in-class observation) |
