Prerequisites (description): | The aim is to learn basic computer tools, useful during physical studies and scientific work of a physicist. The discussed tools are used to analyse experimental data, remote working on computational clusters, and visualization and presentation of scientific results. All presented tools are freeware, so students can install them on their personal computers and use freely, outside computer lab, as well as during eventual scientific work after graduating. |

Study profile: general academic Study form: stationary Subject type: obligatory Study year, semester: year 1, semester 1 ECTS Points: 5 student workload: - participation in lectures (15 hours), - participation in laboratory (30 hours), - preparation for classes (15 hours), - participation in consultations (3 hours), - preparation for the exam and exam (10+2 hours). Quantitative indicators: - participation in lectures (0.6 ECTS Points), - participation in laboratory (1.2 ECTS Points), - preparation for classes (0.6 ECTS Points), - participation in consultations (0.12 ECTS Points), - preparation for the exam and exam (0.48 ECTS Points). |

A student knows the rules of operating systems usage and the package of selected specialist application software, including environments for data analysis and symbolic computation K_W23 Can work in the environment of different operating systems and use selected application software K_U22 |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
A final grade is based on: 1. what a student knows about the discussed computer tools 2. how a student can apply computer tools to given problems 3. how a student can discuss about the computer tools 4. how a student can use literature and the Internet 5. how a student is creative in solving probles Students must attend to laboratory lessons. It is allowed to skip three lessons. Final grade results from homeworks, short tests during a few selected lessons, and final test. To complete the lecture a final exam must be passed. |
