Prerequisites (description): | The course aims to provide students with fundamental knowledge of morphology, syntax and semantics of English as well as to identify the similarities and differences between the grammatical systems of English and Polish. |

Short description: |
The main aim of this course is to familiarize students with the foundations of the descriptive grammar of English. The main part of the course involves an overview of the fundamental features of the English grammar system. The course is also intended to draw students' attention to the grammar phenomena discussed in their assigned readings and facilitate their comprehension. |

General Academic Profile Full-time programme Obligatory course (M_5) The humanisties, linguistics. Year 1, Semesters 1 and 2 Prerequisites: The student should understand the basics of English grammar description and know its basic terms. Number of hours: 60 h, practical classes Teaching methods: informative, problem-oriented, practical. 4 ECTS points Students' workload balance Participation in the practical class: 60 h Preparation for the class and Revision for the test: 30 h Consultations with the teacher: 10 h Revision for the the test and attending it: 17 h Numerical indicators: Students' workload connected with classes which require the teacher's participation: 72 h Students' workload connected with classes of rpactical nature: 60 h |

Knowledge The student: KP6_WG1: understands key grammatical phenomena, processes, and systems of the English language as well as relevant theoretical approaches; applies this knowledge in structural and contrastive analysis. KP6_WG4: knows and uses linguistic terminology and basic methodological tools. KP6_WG9: is familiar with cultural concepts relevant for analyzing language and communication. KP6_WK1: identifies and reflects on linguistic and communication-related challenges within contemporary civilization. Skills The student: KP6_UW1: identifies and solves grammatical problems by selecting appropriate methods of analysis. KP6_UW6: applies analytical tools in the study of morphological, syntactic, and semantic phenomena. KP6_UW7: critically evaluates information and academic sources in linguistics. KP6_UK1: communicates with precision using linguistic terminology. KP6_UO1: organizes individual and team-based grammatical analysis tasks. KP6_UU1: plans and implements autonomous learning. Social competences The student: KP6_KK1: reflects critically on their grammatical knowledge and ways of improving it. Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
The course ends with a graded pass. During the semester, students take several tests assessing their knowledge and skills in morphology, syntax, and semantics. The grading policy is as follows: 60-69=3.0, 70-75=3.5, 76-81=4.0, 82-87=4.5, 88-100=5.0 To earn credit, students need to comply with attendance requirements (a maximum of 2 absences is allowed). |

(in Polish) Profil ogólnoakademicki. Studia stacjonarne. Przedmiot obowiązkowy (M_5). Nauki humanistyczne, językoznawstwo. I rok, semestr I i II. Wymagania wstępne: Student powinien rozumieć podstawowe założenia opisu gramatyki języka angielskiego oraz znać podstawowe pojęcia gramatyczne służące do jego opisu. Liczba godzin: 60h, ćwiczenia. Metody dydaktyczne: prezentacje, dyskusje, praca w grupach. 4 ECTS. Bilans nakładu pracy studenta: - Udział w ćwiczeniach: 60h - Przygotowanie do zajęć oraz przygotowanie do testów: 30h - Konsultacje z nauczycielem: 10h - Przygotowanie do testu i udział w nim: 17h Wskaźniki ilościowe: - Nakład pracy studenta związany z zajęciami wymagającymi bezpośredniego udziału nauczyciela: 72h - 2,75 pkt. (in Polish) Kurs kończy się zaliczeniem na ocenę. W trakcie kursu odbędą się 4 punktowane testy. Jedynie zdobycie powyżej51% punktów ze wszystkich testów i prezentacji pozwala na otrzymania zaliczenia. 51-60=3, 61-70-=3+, 71-80=4, 81-90=4+, 91-100=5 Studenci, którzy otrzymają mniej niż 51% punktów mogą podejść do testu poprawkowego z całości materiału w trakcie egzaminacyjnej sesji poprawkowej semestru letniego. Aby go zaliczyć muszą uzyskać min. 51% punktów, jednak bez względu na ilość punktów jedyna możliwa ocena to ocena dostateczna. Warunkiem otrzymania zaliczenie jest wygłoszenie krótkiego referatu (10-15 min). Otrzymanie zaliczenia warunkuje również obecność na zajęciach (dopuszczalne 2 nieobecności w semestrze), regularne i aktywne uczestnictwo w zajęciach oraz prace domowe. |

This course provides students with fundamental knowledge in English morphology, syntax, and semantics, with a particular emphasis on comparing the grammatical systems of English and Polish. Students learn to analyze grammatical structures, apply linguistic terminology, and independently identify and describe grammatical phenomena. The course focuses on developing analytical and interpretative skills and prepares students for independent learning in grammar studies. Only a score of more than 51% on all tests will allow students to receive credit. 51-60=3, 61-70-=3+, 71-80=4, 81-90=4+, 91-100=5 Students who score less than 51% can take a revision test of the entire material during the examination session of the summer semester. In order to pass it, they must obtain min. 51% of the points, however, regardless of the number of points, the only grade possible is a pass mark. (2 absences per semester allowed), |
